Let There Be Light

The Lord’s theme for me this week appears to be spreading His light. I watched “Let There Be Light” over the weekend (you can also watch on Angel Studios, highly recommend!) and He has placed very specific scripture on my heart. The first one being Matthew 9:37-38 and John 8:12.

I pray every morning, usually as my coffee is brewing, and I always ask, “Lord, what is your assignment for me today?” Over the last week, He has been asking me to do the work. “Do the work.” “Keep going.” “Just do the work.” I hear you Lord! But sometimes, that is not always clear. Have you ever prayed and wondered what it means? You are excited because you are hearing direction, God is speaking to you! Hallelujah! Then you stop and think, wait a minute, I have no idea where to go from here. That was me, so you are not alone! I said, “Lord, I hear you and I want to do the work so much, I am so excited. But what kind of work?” Some days it was clear that He meant work from home, homeschool, side business, or podcast. On this day, the same instruction I had received just FELT different. My spirit was sensing a shift in direction. I knew we were moving from the earthly duties into eternal, kingdom duties.

After I asked my second question, “What kind of work?” I immediately asked, “What word do you have for me today?” I just knew there was a verse that would help me understand His message. Sure enough, He led me to Matthew 9:37-38. Do the work means go out and find workers. GO OUT and FIND them, He says. I hear you Lord! My purpose is to share the Gospel with others, and to do it in a way that will reach across the country, maybe even across the world, through this blog, through social media, and through my podcast, Sanctification Station. So here I am.

Another morning, another prayer where I asked, again, “Lord, what assignment do you have for me today?” He answered, again, “Do the work.” Now, this time I knew that we were focused on kingdom work. I asked if He had more scripture to share and I was led to John 8:12. This provided more clarity for me. Yes, I have been asked to go out and find the workers. Because I follow Jesus, I am not venturing out in the darkness (the world) alone. He is with me; therefore, I will always have light.

To add some context for those of you who may not know my story: I was baptized almost four years ago. Before then, I felt surrounded by darkness so strongly that it was tangible. It had a weight to it, a substance. I felt it constantly and the weight of it was physically dragging me down; I would physically sit with my shoulders hunched, curling in on myself to try and keep it away. When I was baptized, all of that darkness disappeared and I was surrounded by the light and fire of the Holy Spirit. It is a moment I will never forget!

John 8:12 is reassurance from the Lord that while He is asking me to face the darkness (find the workers) and share His Word, I am not alone. Jesus is the light of life and through Him, we have already conquered the darkness!

And so, I pray that if you are feeling the darkness, if you are feeling swallowed up by it or you can’t seem to find the light, that you will call out to Jesus for help. Call out to Him and ask Him for help! Because you know what? He is right beside you. Even in the darkness, He is there with an outstretched hand, just waiting for you to grab it.
